Costa Rican band PERCANCE become YUNGA ambassadors

Aside from dazzling the Latin American music scene, the 11-man band Percance is deeply engaged in promoting world peace, human equality and environmental sustainability. The Costa Rican police force has named them ‘National Ambassadors of Peace’, and the Costa Rican President herself, Laura Chinchilla, has called them “an example of social consciousness”. Seeing the band’s impact especially on young people, we are proud to announce that Percance are now also Ambassadors for the Youth and United Nations Global Alliance (YUNGA).

“The UNCSD Major Group for Children and Youth (MGCY), is the official young people’s constituency for Rio+20. MGCY is comprised of hundreds of organisations, official youth government delegates, activists, journalists, young professionals and students. We are the voice of young people in the official process and we collaborate to ensure a strong, inclusive and unified voice. MGCY is hosting the official Conference of Youth (aka Youth Blast) for young people prior to the Earth Summit. This event will be held from 7-12 June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro (7 and 8 June will focus on Brazilian youth and 10-12 is the Youth Blast for international youth). YUNGA International Drawing Competition "International Year of Forests 2011"

The International Drawing Competition is held as a part of a youth education initiative intended to enhance awareness on the importance of forests among children and young people and to provide them with knowledge that can help them to become active agents of change in our society. Relevant information about the challenges that our environment is facing today is an essential tool for enabling children and young people to take responsible action in their communities and, therefore, strengthen their participation in the protection, preservation and improvement of our natural resources. The project is developing a series of educational materials and activities for children and young people, teachers and youth leaders. The Drawing Competition linked to the 2011 International Year of Forest and has the objective to allow children and youth to explore through their drawings why forests are important to our world. The drawings submitted will be used in logos, publications, T shirts and activity badges.
