To provide a broad perspective on the issues relating to mitigation of climate change in agriculture, we present in this section a series of question and answers sessions with a range of experts.

Claudio FornerClaudio Forner of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat came to Rome in July 2012 to attend a workshop organized by FAO and the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) on Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs). We asked him about how NAMAs fit into the big picture of global efforts to mitigate climate change in agriculture.

Moushumi Chaudhury

Moushumi ChaudhuryMoushumi Chaudhury is a Social Scientist at the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS). She provides technical support to issues such as gender and climate change. Ms Chaudhury also focuses on partnership and communication to link knowledge with action. We asked her about the joint CCAFS-FAO training materials and the importance of research in the area of gender and climate change.

Peter-Erik Ywema

Peter-Erik Ywema is General Manager SAI Platform (Global), an organization created by the food industry to communicate and to actively support the development of sustainable agriculture involving stakeholders of the food chain. In the early nineties he was amongst the researchers that developed life cycle assessment as a tool to better understand real and significant environmental impacts. We spoke to him about life cycle analyses, climate change mitigation in agriculture and international efforts to address climate change.

Josephine Kirui

Josephine Kirui

Josephine Kirui works for the International World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) and serves as the coordinator of the feeds and feeding systems component for the East Africa Dairy Development (EADD) project. Ms Kirui is also facilitating the implementation of the MICCA pilot project within the framework of EADD.
