NFP Facility Partnership

Vanuatu Vanuatu

The Partnership Agreement between the NFP Facility and Vanuatu was signed in 2004. The primary objective of the Partnership is to stimulate the implementation of national forest policies. This was intended to be carried out by engaging key forestry stakeholders in a consultation process, focusing on the role of various actors in the management of Vanuatu's forest resources. NFP Facility support is meant to assist in i) building the capacity of Department of Forests staff and stakeholder groups in order to improve forest management practices; ii) development of a National Forest Policy Implementation strategy; iii) updating national forest resource information (mainly for sandalwood, post harvest regeneration and local and introduced timber species); iv) advancing the potential of value-added processing of forest products; and v) increasing and developing information on utilisation of local and introduced, high market potential timber species. Outcomes are expected to include improved participation in the nfp process by key stakeholders, especially women and landowners in rural communities.
